This is the piece I did for Modern Panic VI by Guerilla Zoo in November last year. It’s now on show in Cult Mountain on Bethnal Green Road.
‘I Can’t Help Thinking…… It’s All Your Fault’ by Lucy Sparrow, 2013 ‘I Can’t Help Thinking….It’s All Your Fault’ is a sketchbook and diary notes based on a fictional character named Eugene Banks. It chronicles the character’s life from the age of 16 when he starts killing to when he is eventually caught and sentenced to death in a hypothetical Britain where the death penalty has been re-introduced. Banks grim decline starts when he begins to dabble in the occult and becomes fascinated in the most prolific serial killers in British history. He studies intensely the crimes of others until his modus operandi becomes that of all the most dangerous criminals combined. The book starts off with collected specimens, general musings and throughout the pages becomes more and more the rantings of a madman. Eugene Banks professes his sanity and claims to be purely working in the interest of pure human evil. Like all of Lucy Sparrow’s work, this is a stitched sculpture with the most intricate details encapsulated within embroidered hand-sewing. The attention to detail emulates the mindset of the obsessive collector, taking the viewer on a horrendous journey of an evolving criminal.
