Lucy Sparrow - Sew your Soul

Lucy Sparrow’s Bourdon Street Chippy

Renowned British artist Lucy Sparrow will unveil her latest large-scale installation on the 1st August 2025: an interactive, hand-crafted fish and chip shop in the heart of London. Located at Mayfair’s Lyndsey Ingram Gallery, The Bourdon Street Chippy will open for six weeks until the 14th September 2025. Inviting visitors into a nostalgic and tactile reimagining of one of Britain’s national treasures. The opening marks Lucy’s return to both the UK and to the Lyndsey Ingram Gallery, following her very successful, The Bourdon Street Chemist.

Inside Lucy’s Felt-Filled World

Lucy Sparrow - Sew your Soul

For more than a decade, Lucy has captured the hearts of art lovers and curious passers-by alike with her playful, immersive installations made entirely from felt. Travelling the world, Lucy has transformed everyday environments into unforgettable art experiences – from corner shops and supermarkets to New York bodegas and pharmacies. Each installation is brought to life with thousands of meticulously hand-sewn felt objects, and are available to buy here! directly from Lucy.

As much theatre as it is art, the familiarity of the spaces she creates disarms the viewer, inviting them into a playful, often nostalgic place. Whether you’re walking into one of her installations or holding a piece in your hands, Lucy’s work is a celebration of the mundane made magical.

Britain’s First Felt Fish & Chip Shop

Inside Bourdon Street Chippy, visitors will be transported to their local fish and chip shop, where they can order their usual Friday night supper. Fish and chips? Yep. Battered sausage and chips? We’ve got that as well. Pie and chips? Sorted. All served across a traditional chip shop counter recreated in fabric. While relaxing on the hand-made seating, visitors can enjoy the walls filled with classic chip shop menus, shop signs, and even a gallery of hand-sewn portraits of the chippy’s famous former patrons. All made entirely out of felt of course.

The installation will feature over 65,000 individually hand-crafted and painted felt pieces, and with her signature attention to detail, Lucy has even meticulously created 15 distinct chip shapes in 5 different colours.

Lyndsey Ingram comments: “We are excited to welcome Lucy Sparrow back to Bourdon Street for another of her felt creations – blurring the lines between performance and installation art, all in her distinctive felt language. Lucy is one of the most important and meaningful artists of her generation. I am pleased and proud that my gallery will again be a platform for her brilliant work.”

The Bourdon Street Chippy opens to the public Wednesday-Sunday between 1st August and 14th September, plus bank holiday Monday 25th August, and is free to visit. Lucy cannot wait to welcome you all through the doors of Britain’s first felt fish and chip shop!
